The Lebanese Observatory for Workers and Employees Rights (LWRO) is committed to safeguarding the privacy and protection of all individuals who interact with our legal support and labor rights monitoring services.  In line with international best practices, including relevant national laws, LWRO collects and processes personal data based on informed consent, the legitimate interest of providing legal assistance and labor rights monitoring, and the public interest in promoting social justice and decent work.
 

This policy outlines how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal data, particularly in the context of legal consultation and field-based labor rights monitoring. 
 

1. What Information We Collect

We may collect the following information:

  • Name (optional)
  • Gender
  • Age
  • Nationality
  • Contact information (phone number, WhatsApp, or email)
  • Employment status and workplace location
  • Description of your legal or labor rights issue
  • Any additional information you choose to share voluntarily

Note: You are not required to provide personal identifiers unless necessary for follow-up or case resolution. Anonymous data is always preferred when possible.

Your information will only be used for the following purposes:

  • Providing you with legal advice or consultation
  • Contacting you for follow-up, only if you consent
  • Referring to your case to a legal expert or organization with your permission
  • Identifying labor rights trends or violations for advocacy and monitoring (anonymized)

 

3. Who Has Access to Your Data

Access to your personal data is strictly limited to:

  • LWRO’s Legal Expert, responsible for case management
  • Affiliated legal service providers, only if referral is required and you consent
  • Your data will never be sold, rented, or shared with third parties for commercial purposes.

 

4. Data Storage and Protection

  • All digital data is stored on secure servers managed by LWRO, which are protected by multiple layers of security measures including password-restricted access, regularly updated antivirus and firewall systems, and encrypted data storage protocols. Access to these servers is limited to authorized personnel only.
  • Physical documents (if any) are stored in locked facilities.
  • Staff involved in data collection and management receive regular training on data protection, confidentiality, and ethical handling of sensitive information.
  • Monitoring and legal consultation processes are designed to protect the dignity, safety, and anonymity of individuals.


5. Data Retention Period

Personal data will be retained only as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected, and no longer than 2 years after the case is closed, unless legally required to retain it longer. 


6. Third-parties

LWRO may use third-party services (e.g., encrypted cloud storage or data collection platforms) to manage your data. These providers are selected carefully and meet data protection standards. However, no personal data will be shared with third parties unless a data sharing agreement is signed and a prior consent is obtained.

  • Request corrections or updates to inaccurate information

If you are a vulnerable individual (such as a migrant worker, a minor, or someone in an urgent or high-risk situation), additional precautions will be taken to ensure your privacy, dignity, and safety.
